Yorkshire Festival 2014

Le Tour de France 2014 was preceded by the Yorkshire Festival, 100 Days of Arts and Culture. “Bellringers Herald Cyclists” was a headline event in the Festival.

Welcome to Yorkshire have released some cracking films on the Yorkshire Festival website.  They include great memories of the Festival and of Le Tour de France 2014.

Bells, in particular, feature in “Festival Rising” – excerpts of Sheffield Cathedral and its bells around 1min20s into the film.

Also, click Bells to see the Programme notice for “Bell Ringers Herald Cyclists” and to hear a clip of Penistone bells being rung during a visit by ITV Calendar film crew during an interview to announce “The Big Ring” for the Tour Opening Ceremony on 3 July.

And click Festival to find out more about the wonderful range of other events planned.

This was a wonderful opportunity to:

– share the music of bells with the world

– invite non ringers to come and have a go – and maybe become the new ringers of tomorrow

– give a warm welcome to the cyclists, the international tourists and the media, and

– engage positively with other community groups in an exciting prequel to Le Tour and to establish a legacy beyond Le Tour

And looking back, yes we had a great time.
